What is 'index out of date' and how do I fix?

Index is out of date

Possible Cause of Error

You probably have an inconsistency between a Paradox table (.DB) and one of its index files. One or more index files is probably corrupt or out of sync with its corresponding table. A user may have closed the application improperly or experienced a crash with the program active.

The Paradox tables primary index file is the name of the file with a PX extension. The secondary index files are the name of the table followed by extensions of .XGn and .YGn (where n is a hexadecimal number).

This may have occurred due to one of the following reasons:

1. You modified the table (added or edited records) while the table itself (*.DB) was in a different directory than the index files.

2. You modified the contents of the table using another application.

3. Your system crashed while you were adding or editing a record.

4. You may be accessing Paradox tables on a network from a client machine running Windows 95 and have a version between 4.00.1111 and 4.00.1114 of Microsoft’s Virtual Network Redirector file VREDIR.VXD.

5. You may be attempting to edit a record in a table or insert a record into a table whose index is not maintained.

6. You may be experiencing network problems.

7. You may be using Windows NT and opportunistic locking.
